Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
I haven't read the whole post about [info]theferrett's "Open-Source Boob Project" because, you know, I have Internet. I can look at boobies any time I want. That said, I would like to grump in El Ferrett-O's general direction for mis-using "open source" in a Fractionally grievous way.

If you want to demystify breasts...and let's throw penises into this mix to make it fair...you need to teach people how to make them, not just show them off. Open source is about sharing the process, not just displaying the result. A true "Open-Source Naughty Bits" project should:

1. Teach people how to make breasts that felt proper when groped and would include a vascular system for nipple erection when stroked.

2. Teach people how to fashion penises that could be activated and deactivated similarly.

3. Accept lessons and input from cross-dressers, makeup artists, and dildo manufacturers on the proper construction of naughty bits.

I don't really have an opinion about the grope factor, but I am dismayed to see "open source" being so wrongly used for the sake of buzzwords.

Don't read it. It sent my blood pressure in one direction and my opinion of the commenters in the exact opposite. You will come away from it disgusted in the knowledge that other people want you to stop doing legal, consensual things with other people because it makes the people not doing it feel bad. Which is their business because...?

The big thing that "bugs" (and I'm not even sure if it goes that far, maybe "confuses" is a better term) me about it all is that there are conventions dedicated to sex, FetishCon is the one I know about. I'm a little stymied why Ferrett didn't just suggest using one of those instead a scifi convention.

I don't even think it was HIS idea. (I can't read all of the posts because I value my sanity and I can only hold back from the Special Olympics for so long)

From what I know of cons (thankfully this is second-hand info from friends who do attend), it's fairly freaky and the same people tend to go to both. Apparently there real reason to go to Dragoncon is to score drugs and get laid. It's band camp for people who are too old for band camp.

Having said that, if feeling boobs is a fetish, it's the most vanilla fetish you could have.

Possibly not, but he strikes me as being an on the ball kind of guy. If anyone could have defused it by suggesting an alternate location, I'd had laid money on him being that one.

A big problem such a project would face is the similarity in sound between "open source" and "open sores", which you REALLY don't want applied to naughty bits.

You're thinking of the Open-Source Ebola Project, an honest mistake.

As a cunning linguist, I must applaud the fact that you're arguing semantics here, sir!

The "open source" is meant to be a kind of shout out to his Open Source Wishing Project of a few months ago. I'm sure he knows that it's not really an appropriate term.

The OSWP kind of works, because it's offering freely usable and modifiable steps for wishes. This boob thing, if you'll excuse me being a total nerd here, is more of a "service oriented" program, wherein women provide the service of being groped.
