Lol wut? [Aug. 19th, 2008|03:22 pm]

Dear Wonder Woman DVD Movie Trailer,

Nice riff on the Iron Man trailers, but I would like to point out that Diana was not, in fact, born. She was made from clay and imbued with the soul of Hippolyta's preincarnated form's baby. Yes, some heroes are born, yours is not one of them.

Factcheckingly yours,

Though, to be fair, being physically born is probably a serious upgrade for explainability and sense compared to the bit quoted. No, seriously, just saying. If your origin story involves the word “preincarnated,” you need it rewritten.

Not all reinventions are bad. I know this is troubling to say, but it’s true.

Especially since there was no reason to swap Diana with Pandora in the first place.

The amazons captured or seduced their husbands, and if they want a Magic Island they can have it while keeping the men on a second island... The problem is that the guy who created the character was trying to do a counter to the maleNobleSavage, and his Female Noble Warriors had to be free of the Things That Were Wrong About Males.

That's the second time you've said that to me. You're mysterious repeated phrase makes me think you're up to something, like unto [info]thandrak.

Could be you're seeing patterns where none exist.

Could be I'm merely making note of you noticing things that slipped by me, and am praising you for your cleverness.

Could be you're just overly paranoid, and that beagle wandering down the street is just a beagle wandering down the street...wearing what looks like flack jacket...

Aw man, I was hoping your PS meant Elle MacPherson was playing Wonder Woman. Not my first choice, but that'd still be hellafied self-dating material.

Claudia. Black. When she's 90, I'll still want her to play Wonder Woman.

For what it's worth, the "making of Wonder Woman" featurette on the Gotham Knight DVD did specifically recap the molded-out-of-clay story. So if there's an error, it's probably due to whoever wrote the trailer narration not being acquainted with the facts of Diana's life rather than a change in the show itself.

The Iron Man movie's mag tagline, that I remember was, "Some heroes are born...others are made." So, I get the feeling it's kind of riffing on that.
